i really dont know how much i want to be a vet tech anymore.
when they say things such as, its not going to be what you think...i feel like they are talking directly to me. as ive been shadowing in a vet clinic over break, ive seen that they are right. being a vet tech isnt about being there to make sure an animal is ok, or taking care of it and being a nurse to it. its about holding the animal down the right way when the doctor does the surgery. its about urine analysis, and blood work. its about answering the phones and dealing with the clients. its all about the work, and very little about the animals. its like choosing to work at target because i like to shop there. vet teching is not something i can see myself doing even into middle age. the ladies who work at the clinic ive been to seem to never stop working. when they arent at this clinic, they are doing part time work at the all hours emergency clinic. they work holidays, and weekends, and early mornings, and late nights. ive been told that average vet techs burn out after about 10 years in a clinic.
but if not this major, then what?
